Education principles
Reports to parents after each session
We send a detailed report to parents after each session, showing what was done. You also have access to the session materials if you want to revise anything at home or discuss it with your child.
Progressive complexity
Every challenge has different cards/levels. The first ones are easy, the last ones are very challenging. Kids do as much as they can at their own pace. For the fastest kids we always provide extra challenges if they complete all the cards. Nobody feels bored!
Activity type changes every 25 minutes
Activities include discussing a problem, learning a new technique, working together, working individually on challenges, creating challenges for each other, crafting (when helpful for the topic), and games.
No lecturing
Adults speak for no more than a few minutes.
Interval learning
When a new topic arises, we try revisiting what we’ve learnt in the next session.
E.g.: We look at the classic ‘count triangles’ challenge and next time use it in matchstick puzzles.
E.g.: We learn divisibility rules, and next time we use them to prove the impossibility of a tiling.
Source of topics/challenges
Mainly past maths challenges and olympiads from the UK and abroad, plus related books. We then group topics and revisit each new concept in 2 or more sessions, following an interval learning approach wherever possible.
